Delta- Day 2

We wake up about 8:30 to chirping birds and the random boats going by once in a blue moon. I sit on the porch and feel like humming birds are going to smack me in the face. There are just so many of them and they are chirping, zooming by, and fighting. It’s crazy. My favorites are the bright green with orange beaks, Greg likes the blue and white ones with black spots on their bellies. They have about 5 feeders and Ana said sometimes during the year they have to fill them up 8 times in one day.
We hear breakfast is served this morning, again, not so sure on what time, but it’s also included in our room price- so we really don’t have high hopes. It’s actually pretty typical, fresh squeezed orange juice, toast, and coffee. Ana and Richard take Foxy to town to visit the vet and will probably be gone most of the day.We decide to make this day our exploring day. We get dressed and sprayed and venture out into the land in the back of the house. Of course Pecas and Black Dog want to joing us. Matias reminds us to put on bug spray, we assure him we have. Okay, we really weren’t prepared for the mosquito convention taking place on our bodies. They were swarming all over us. Maybe not such a great idea. We change plans and walk along the river with the dogs, but remember we can only go about 10 “blocks” since the dogs are with us. Apparently there are some other dogs nearby and they will start to bicker. We figure 10 blocks is probably 10 houses and stop when we get to about 6 and head back. We met up with Charlie and Olivia and the dogs head out with them. So we pass Los Pecanes in the opposite direction and see what’s in store. Surprise surprise, it’s more mosquitoes. The weird thing is though, they are all over Greg and not bothering me at all. Me, the Queen of Mosquito Bites. I think I already have about 25.

We head back and decide to take Matias suggestion and grab some life vests, walk up river and float down. Charile and Olivia join us. But before we go, Greg and Charlie decide to jump on the dock. I have a huge fear of falling and the whole running and pushing off action is a bit intimidating for me. Matias goes to the end and shows me that I can just push off the end too. Okay, I don’t have to be super coordinated for that. Finally I do it to and then Olivia does too. Once again, the water is the place to be. I am glad they are here and enjoy their company. I also envy them to death-- to be in South America for 6 months, not sure what is ahead and just up for whatever comes their way.

We spend most of the day lounging with them and enjoying their company with a few Quilmes beers. Lunch time rolls around and we are served an appetizer of an onion quiche and entrĂ©e of a vegetable crepe, I think it’s some type of greens, with a cream sauce and bread. We get more ice cold beer. For dessert we ask if we can just have fruit later in the day. Perfecto. After a nap in the hammocks we bid our new friends goodbye as they are heading back to BA today. We walk up further along the river and float down for a while.

I think it’s time for another nap. Even though it’s stifling hot, we manage to crash for an hour or so. The humidity is unbearable when we get up and the mosquitoes and enjoying a little Lisa Snack so we head into the house. I jump on the laptop to write some and greg reads- Foxy at my feet and black Dog on the floor behind me. Is it really snowing back home? I guess this isn’t so bad after all.
