Greg's Latin Twin Brother

Edgardo and his wife, Vivian picked us up around 10ish. But both were sooo nice and trying to accommodate our wishes. His English was beyond excellent and hers was limited but she understood quite a bit. so we all could figure out what we were talking about pretty easily.

I swear this is Greg's twin in the southern hemisphere. Their personalities were so similar, Vivian and I were just laughing and saying a lot of "ello tambien/him too!"

Edgar really wanted to take us somewhere we wanted to go, we just didn't have any idea of where that would be! Since we were really up for anything, we just said "we have good company, so let's just go someplace where you would go with another BA couple." After some discussion we said it would be nice to have lamb, so off we went.

We went to Patagonicos in the Nunez area, I think, past the polo fields along the coast, then a bit inland, and totally out of the touristy area. They serve Patagonian food, which is the region southern part of Argentina and near Antarctica. We arrived around 11 and it looked like we were the second wave of diners (all the babies were going home). We had about a 30 min. wait so by the time we actually sat down, it was close to midnight. Since we were out of the tourist area there wasn't any English on the menu and these were specialty dishes, so we needed some help.

We started off with a "tabla"- appetizer with smoked meats (venison, lamb salami, trout, provolone and swiss cheeses) and the most amazing artisan breads. My favorite was this really dark brown, almost black, sweet bread that was made with cloves. For dinner I stole Greg's order and got the lamb goulash and Greg got surprema rellena, breaded pork loin stuffed with ham, red peppers and some type of rice/pasta with a spiced cream sauce. Of course it was all fantastic.

Lots of laughing and listening to Edgardo tell stories. We actually closed the joint down at 2:30ish. Edgardo was disappointed that we couldn't get an after dinner drink and dessert. So we drove to another place but it was closed. Honestly, I was a bit relieved. :) We got home at 3 and crashed.

Today we are off to San Telmo. We will check out the Flea Market style antique fair.
