Here's the Bife, already

My father in law is in BA until later that evening, so we all venture off to Recoleta- Posadas and Callao streets to get our stuff into our flat. We rented a great little studio with wireless, and paid phone calls to US. It also has a little terrace. I am set.

We grab a quick bite to eat down Posadas called La Rambla, I think. I will look later. The food is fine but it is my introduction to BA style dining. You sit where you like, they will get to you soonish, you need to ask for a menu, and pretty much flag down the waiter for anything else (no check back and "is everything okay" action). Then the waiter will probably forget what you ordered and you will have to ask again. the total meal will probably last at least an hour and you will not be given the check until you ask for it. They really don't care if you are there for HOURS.

We then all go hit the famous Recoleta Cemetery. It's really amazing. Evita is buried here, but actually the entire place is just unreal. Literally a city for the dead. Mike, my FIL, was short on time, so it was a quick visit. Definitely a return trip is in order, especially since it's just a few blocks from us.

We grab a taxi back to the hotel, say goodbye to Greg's group and his dad.

Dinner is at El Establo. Greg's cousin Kevin recommends the place, I search it on TripAdvisor (My BA bible) and it looks like a go. AMAZING. great little local place that's close to the touristy area. But again, no English. Our waiter is so cute, and really young, which seemed to be the exception here. Cheesy Christmas decorations throughout. We get a plate of green olives in oil and bread. Cute Waiter tells me my Bife de Lomo is an excellent selection. Typical orders are the lomo and chorizo, not the same chorizo we are used to in the states. So we get one of each, oh yeah, I guess being a little mixed salad too. Cute waiter gets me a malbec (the unofficial wine of AR), San Telmo label, no idea of the year and it's fine. Not specatular, but good. When in Rome, right? ** I actually had this order picked out MONTHS ago after reading about the different cuts here. Bife de Lomo. Just a matter of actually being in BA to order it.

Our food comes. OH.... MY.... GOD. This is the best steak I have EVER had, and it's only day 1. Greg informs me that this is actually the best steak he has had yet, and he's been here over a week. We decide on dessert. Flan, of course, my fav. So when Cute Waiter asks if I want Dulce De Leche on it (think, soft caramel sauce) and points to the guy behind me to show me. I just say, YES. again OH... MY... GOD. I rock. I have good airplane karma and now good food karma.

By the way, dinner is done around 11:30 (There was a family of 5 at the table next to us that wasn't done yet. Don't these kids have school in the morning??** no, they didn't it's summer down here and they are on summer vaca!) It's pouring rain, we catch a cab and head "home."

an excellent day 1.

What is Bife de Lomo? Anything like the Peruvian lomo de saltada?

Sounds like you are eating well, sistah!
